Week 1 Reading: Ingledew Photography Introduction

Ingledew Photography Introduction

"The key to creating great pictures is not the equipment you use; it's about finding your own way of seeing things using photography" (10)

This quote fascinated me because I thought photography is about the equipments (lenses, cameras, tripods, etc) and techniques. People tend to focus on techniques and my lack of knowledge always make me embarrassing. However, this quote made me feel relief that I could take what I would like to take.

"Photography is a democratic medium -global, inexpensive, and accessible (12)"

Why do we like photographs?

  • Capture memory, remember, show share
  • keep time as it is a moment
  • attachment to the photograph and marks different collection of life

I find it strange that I have been said that Japanese people always take photos; mostly food and particular places. And when I went for host family experience in one English family via HOST UK, I was constantly told so; that Japanese people always take photos. I thought that it is our cultural habit that we take photos, but through this reading, it made me realise that it is not only myself that is into photography; that there are actually English people and other people that love to record their memory in their cameras.
